On Tuesday I had the immense honor of visiting the Chopard headquarters in Meyrin, Geneva along with some fellow bloggers from Switzerland such as Kristina, Florence, Sandra and Sarah. In the morning, the lovely Chopard team told us a little bit about the history behind Chopard. Contrary to popular opinion, Chopard is completely indedependant and does not belong to a group like most of haute-joallerie brands, it’s a family business and they motto is to keep it that way : creativity, elegant and freedom are their key words.
After a brief introduction, the team showed us around the manufacture located in the main HQ. I can describe how I excited I was to finally be able to see the “behind the scenes” of such an iconic jewelry brand. As you may or may not know, everything is produced in Geneva, which is an added value to the brand, they produce on average eighty thousand pieces per year in Switzerland and they have on average two thousand selling points around the world.
For starters, we got to see all the different steps to create a piece of jewelry from melting gold, molding to polishing. Unfortunately for security reasons we weren’t allowed to take pictures of these steps – the pictures from the manufactured are from the making of the new Imperiale collection, which we were allowed to capture. By the way, did you know that Chopard creates their own gold ? I was in complete awe of this whole process and to be able to touch a real gold ingot. Honestly, never in a million years I would have imagined the process to be so complex. Creating a piece requires 7 weeks of work, which equals to 300 hours. It’s insane, but hey…. totally worth it!

Towards the end of our tour, we got the opportunity to view the new Imperiale collection, which is very feminine and colorful. I fell in love with the rose quartz ring! How can you not ?

It’s was such an honor to hold it, and all I could think of was “don’t drop it, don’t drop it, don’t drop it”!
Once we finished our visit, we all headed to the Hotel President Wilson for a Swiss Blogger lunch organized by the Chopard team in collaboration with the new chef at Bayview restaurant : Michel Roth (former chef at the Ritz, two Michelin star) who concocted a very special menu revolving around the theme of Chopard’s Imperiale collection. The food was absolutely to die for, and I love the touches of humor. See for yourself…
